A Transformational 2-Night School Residential – Redbridge Primary

Redbridge Primary School, based in London, embarked on a two-night residential adventure with Rootd for their Year 6 pupils (ages 10-11). As a school that values resilience, independence, and immersion in nature, they sought an experience that would challenge and inspire their students—many of whom rarely get the chance to engage with the natural world.

“The range of activities they were able to experience, including the campfire and bushcrafting, were activities that almost none of our children had experienced before.” explained Ms Porter. The joy of learning practical outdoor skills, combined with the camaraderie built around the fire, created a sense of adventure and excitement that has stayed with the pupils long after the trip ended.

For the Redbridge staff, one of the most rewarding aspects was seeing how Rootd’s instructors connected with the children. Rather than stepping in too often, the teachers took a step back, allowing pupils to navigate social interactions and challenges on their own. Ms Porter highlighted how “the Rootd experience was a very personal one. I have found other residential (providers) try to cater to too many children at once and the instructor is always someone different, so the children don’t get to develop relationships. Our experience with Rootd was the exact opposite.”
