Removing the financial barriers for children attending residential trips

About The Rootd Fund

At Rootd we believe that no child should be left behind. Not left behind in the classroom. Not left behind with life chances. Not left behind in experiencing the great outdoors. All too often it is the children who are at risk of being left behind who have the most to gain from a school residential trip.

When we look at nature, we see how the cycle of life fosters renewal and growth, our commitment allows us to do the same and by giving back to society we hope to help nurture and sustain the next generation.

Supporting Children and Families in Low Income Families

As a family-run business we are acutely aware of the financial pressures facing families. Even with our commitment to price trips fairly, we know that school residential trips remain out of the financial reach of some families.

So, we started to think about how we could help make sure that no child is left behind. How we could we make a genuine commitment to the families who need it most and support those who society sometimes forgets? We are not a large corporate organisation. We do not have unlimited reserves to draw on but what we do have is a commitment to working to ensure that no child misses out on the valuable experiences a residential trip can provide.

How it’s Funded

Our team have committed to fundraising. That might be sourcing grants or charitable donations. It will almost certainly include events and sponsored challenges. Plus, as a company we will donate every single penny over and above our operating costs when we deliver one of our adventure or bushcraft workshop programmes in schools.

We have also launched the first products in our new Rootd clothing range, designed not just to help keep children warm on their trip with us, but look very stylish too!  All profits from the Rootd clothing and merchandise range will be donated to the Rootd Fund.    Click here to view and order

How YOU CAN benefit - Low Season Trips

There are weeks in the low season months of Febrary, March, October and November, outside of the busy summer term,  where we can offer trips more cheaply, making the trip less expensive for the entire group.

We love running our trips at this time of year, there is something very special about being outside in the Autumn and Spring and then coming back to our cosy heated woodland pods and indoor spaces.  It’s a quieter time of year, but it really shouldn’t be and it is yet another thing we want to change.

Additional Support for Schools with High Proportion of Pupil Premium children

And that’s just the start.   The Rootd Fund can provide much more than low-cost trips for the entire school.

We pledge that for schools who choose to book their trip in February, early March, October and November* and who have higher than 50% of pupils in the year group in receipt of pupil premium,  the Rootd Fund will reduce the cost of the trip by the percentage of Pupil premium.  So if 55% of your pupils are eligible for Pupil Premium, your overall trip cost will be reduced by 55%.  This means the Rootd Fund would fund 55% of the cost and your parents would pay the remaining 45%.

And because you know your families best, to help ensure no child is left behind, you can determine how the discounted rate is allocated across your group.
