“The trip met our objectives perfectly! The activities were enjoyable, the staff were incredible, and the site was beautiful!”
When Bickley Primary first contacted Rootd, they were looking for a trusted residential trip provider with a difference. They had been on other residential trips where harness activities were the focus, but Bickley’s headteacher didn’t feel this aligned with their ethos as a school. Instead, she wanted a trip that prioritised exploring the outdoors and connecting with nature, and where the activities reflected this.
So, when they found out more about Rootd’s nature-based activity programmes and read their five-star reviews, they were quick to book!
Making memorable moments together
When Rootd discussed the aims of the trip with Bickley Primary, getting back to basics and making the most of the woodland was high on their list. They loved Rootd’s beautiful setting and wanted to make the most of the surroundings.
But most of all they wanted their pupils to have fun together, with activities that encouraged teamwork and collaboration.
Just the right balance
Rootd carefully designed Bickley’s activity programme so that it balanced their more relaxed, nature-focused activities, such as bushcraft, nature explorer sessions and forest games, with some more adrenaline-fuelled activities, including the Cresta toboggan run. This ensured children could make the most of their time in the outdoors, without being rushed from activity to activity or waiting too long in line.
Rootd also made sure there was plenty of downtime between activities and before meals, so children could unwind together, reflecting on their experiences and building stronger bonds.
Spacious pod retreats
To add to the sense of outdoor adventure, the school chose Rootd’s pod accommodation, which they loved. The pupils enjoyed the comfy, cosy nature of the pods, and they liked that the pods could sleep up to eight children.
The teaching staff also made the most of the adult pods. With their ensuite shower and kitchenette, they were the perfect space for teachers to unwind after a busy day!
Long-lasting memories
Feedback from the teaching staff was excellent. They were impressed with the range of unique activities on offer, which they said provided a great combination of ‘nature, energy and fear’!
They felt their pupils had a really full, well-rounded experience and learnt a lot of new skills that they’ll remember long into the future.
Rootd loved having Bickley Primary to stay, and they look forward to welcoming them back in the future!
